Sleep and activity data can drive useful automations: lights after you wake, a thermostat setback when you fall asleep. But integration quality varies a lot.

Official integrations (best)

Maintained in Home Assistant core and reviewed with every release:

Community integrations (HACS)

Installed through HACS. They can be excellent, but they’re maintained by volunteers and often use unofficial APIs that can break:

Pin versions and read release notes before updating, the same approach as SafeToUpdate.

Your phone as the bridge

The Home Assistant Companion App exposes phone sensors (steps, activity, sleep confidence on some platforms) to Home Assistant. It’s a simple fallback when there’s no direct integration.

Privacy tip

Health data in Home Assistant ends up in your recorder database and backups. Exclude sensitive entities from long-term history if you share dashboards or backups.

Filter the device list for official HA support.
